Artist Statement

"Through expressive characters and immersive storytelling, I aim to inspire imagination and emotional connection."

I am a character-focused concept illustrator and comic artist, exploring expressiveness through facial expressions, body language, and pose. I work across both digital and traditional mediums, with experience in graphite, colored pencil, marker, acrylic, and oil painting. My work often focuses on animal subjects and incorporates personal meaning drawn from my life.

In my work, I explore themes including life and death, environmental issues, and "what-if" scenarios. These concepts involve combining subjects or reimagining roles, allowing me to experiment with character personality and behavior. I aim to evoke a range of emotions, from calm and content moments to eerie or unsettling atmospheres. Through this work, I touch on ideas of creativity, memory, and broader world issues.

My artistic process involves thumbnailing, rough sketching, inking, and coloring across both traditional and digital media. I start with quick thumbnails and rough sketches to plan compositions and develop ideas. From there, I begin inking, where it can range from thin and clean linework to more expressive, rough, or bold depending on the piece. My use of color ranges from realistic to stylized, and saturated to more muted palettes. Stylistically, my work moves from clean to loose, as well as realistic to a cartoonish approach. Through foundational drawing, I create dynamic poses and facial expressions to bring out the personality of my characters.

My work is influenced by artists such as James Baxter, particularly in his approach to expressive character designs and facial animations. I am also inspired by films like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse for its expressive and stylized animation and character designs. Additionally, my family — especially my parents — have been supportive figures throughout my life and artistic journey.

My current work focuses on a narrative-driven comic, Nosophobia, a sci-fi mystery story centered on a spy agent and a biochemist. Through this project, I aim to develop my characters and explore storytelling by writing the beginning and ending of my comic series. Alongside this project, I continue to create and generate illustrations that support my character concept work.

I aim to create work that fosters an emotional connection between viewers and my characters through immersive storytelling. I hope to encourage imagination and creativity, inspiring others through my work. As I continue to develop my artistic skills and grow professionally, I hope my work is shared with a wider audience, leaving an impact.
